Did you know that Stop Pressure Ulcer Awareness Day is happening this Friday 16 November?
This annual day aims to raise awareness of the global burden of pressure ulcers which can not only be physically but also mentally scarring for the patients that suffer from them. Currently a staggering 20-25% of hospital beds are occupied by pressure ulcer patients with 60-80% of these patients developing ulcers after hospital admission.
These incurred costs, primarily due to patients with pressure ulcers remaining on average three times longer in care, are ultimately unnecessary. Experts agree that prevention strategies are vital and there are new recommendations to add dressings to reduce these occurrences and relieve healthcare systems of this avoidable expense.
The Stop Pressure Ulcer Awareness Day is founded by The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP).
